Winnie the Pooh will stay in New York

March 22, 1998

There is no indication Pooh and friends will return to England. After the actions of Gwyneth Dunwoody, and the enormous amount of press reports like 'Battle of WaterPooh' (The Express) and the threat of the Sun ("Free the Pooh five or else we kidnap Buzz Lightyear"), no serious actions were taken to get Pooh back to England. And after the 'already famous' words of President Clinton ("The loss of Pooh will be 'utterly unbearable'") it became very quiet around Pooh and his friends. Only the New York Public Library did let know once again not to 'free' the Pooh-five!

Anyhow, like the last sentence of 'the House at Pooh Corner' tells: "But wherever they go, and whatever happens to them on the way, in that enchanted place on the top of the forest a little boy and his Bear will always be playing".
