Friendship day is an international event celebrated in numerous countries the world over. International friendship day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August; the traditional was initiated by the United States Congress in 1935 in view of the growing hatred and hostilities post World War I. It was felt that steps need to be taken so that there could be more trust and understanding not just between nations but even the people of different countries.

Seeing the growing popularity of Friendship Day, the United Nations named Winnie the Pooh as the Friendship ambassador of the world. Friendship Day is truly a unique day, a day when people greet their friendships and give them gifts like flowers, friendship bands mainly popular in countries like India and Nepal.
