Paddington Bear and Pooh Bear beaten

August 12, 2010

It is always thought that Winnie the Pooh and the Paddington Bear are the most famous teddy bears in the world, but would you have second thoughts on this? Well in a recent poll conducted by the hotel chain Travelodge, it has been found out that Brits like the traditional teddy bear more.

The survey asked 6,000 Brits which teddy bear was their favorite one and the results about the nation's favorite teddy bear reveal that traditional teddy bears like Little and Big Ted from PlaySchool are ranked #1. Winnie the Pooh is at number #2 followed by Paddington bear also referred to as a polite bear dressed in blue duffle coat.

The survey was conducted after the hotel chain reported that in the last twelve months some 75,000 bears were left behind by owners in their hotels.

It turns out that one in every three bear owners in Britain is a grown-up. The average age of the bear owner is 27 years and 25% of them are men who admit that they carry their teddies with them to remind them of home (to get over home sickness). And of all things, they still manage to lose these bears.

Here is a list of the top 10 teddy bears as picked by People in Britain:

  • 1. The classic Teddy bear such as Little and Big Ted from Playschool
  • 2. Winnie the Pooh
  • 3. Paddington Bear
  • 4. Tatty Bear
  • 5. Sooty
  • 6. Care Bears
  • 7. Yogi Bear
