Pooh and pals doing their bit for the environment

August 30, 2008

Winnie the Pooh and his friends brought a piece of the Hundred Acre Wood and planted it in El Paso during a concerted effort by Disney Live! and the city Parks and Recreation Department wherein they planted trees in the city.

30 children had to opportunity to shovel dirt on the base where the tree were planted standing besides their favorite Pooh characters. Once the planting was done, the children were given the chance to have a meet & greet & photo session with Pooh and Tigger. Disney Live! narrator Tracy Fisher said "We hope this inspires children to preserve the environment for the future and the future of this community".

The Parks and Recreation Department also kick started its memorial tree program which was launched some 3 years ago. Coinciding with it is the Disney Live! show that is scheduled to perform at noon Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Plaza Theatre. Tickets can be bought through Ticketmaster and are also available at the Plaza Theatre Box Office.
